A thoughtful first step

A place for people who want more than small talk.

Many people are looking for meaning, direction, and community, but not necessarily in a religious, academic, or self-help setting.

New Acropolis New Jersey offers a different kind of space: a community where practical philosophy, culture, and meaningful conversations come together in everyday life.

You do not need to be an expert in philosophy. You only need curiosity, openness, and a willingness to reflect.

Three Ways to Practice Philosophy

At New Acropolis, philosophy is not separate from life. It becomes real through the way we think, the culture we explore, and the service we offer to others.

Practical Philosophy

Practical philosophy helps us ask better questions about life, purpose, choices, and human nature. It is not only something to study but also something to practice in everyday life.

Culture

Culture opens a window into the human experience across time, traditions, and civilizations. It helps us understand what connects us as human beings.

Volunteering

Volunteering is philosophy in action. It is a way to move from reflection to service, from ideas to responsibility, and from personal growth to contribution.

I’ve been a student at New Acropolis since January 2025, and it has had a meaningful impact on my daily life. Unlike traditional philosophy courses, the focus here is on living the teachings, not just studying them.

Frequently Asked Questions

A few simple answers for people visiting New Acropolis New Jersey for the first time.

What is New Acropolis?

New Acropolis is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to Philosophy, Culture, and Volunteering. Founded in 1957, it operates in more than 50 countries, offering practical philosophy inspired by the wisdom of both Eastern and Western traditions.

What is the Philosophy for Living course?

This is New Acropolis’ introductory philosophy course. Through weekly classes, students explore timeless philosophical ideas and learn how to apply them to everyday life through reflection, discussion, and practical experience.

Do I need any previous knowledge of philosophy?

Not at all. The course is designed for beginners as well as those who have already studied philosophy. All you need is curiosity and an open mind.

Is New Acropolis a religion, sect, or political organization?

No. New Acropolis is an educational and cultural organization independent of any religion or political party. Students from all backgrounds are welcome, and the course encourages dialogue, critical thinking, and personal reflection—not adherence to any belief system or ideology.

What kind of philosophy do you study?

Our curriculum draws on both Eastern and Western philosophical traditions, including the works of Plato, Aristotle, and the Stoics, as well as the philosophical traditions of India, China, and ancient Egypt. Rather than promoting a single doctrine, we compare ideas from different cultures and explore their relevance to modern life.

How are the classes organized?

The introductory course runs for 20 weeks, with hybrid classes (online and in person) held every Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM (U.S. Eastern Time). Each class includes a presentation followed by time for questions and discussion. Students also receive supplementary study materials and guided review exercises throughout the course.

What if I miss a class?

We ask students to maintain at least 75% attendance throughout the course. If you’ll be absent for an extended period, simply let us know in advance.

Who can participate?

The course is open to adults (18+) from all backgrounds, professions, cultures, and beliefs. Whether you’re simply curious about philosophy or looking for personal growth, you’ll be welcome.

Are there free events?

Yes. Throughout the year we offer free lectures, workshops, cultural events, and introductory classes so you can experience our approach before enrolling in the full course.

Will I be expected to continue after the introductory course?

No. Completing the introductory course does not obligate you to continue. Some students choose to pursue advanced studies, while others simply complete the first course.

Will I be asked to volunteer or participate in other activities?

No. Community events, cultural activities, and volunteering opportunities are available for those who are interested, but participation beyond the course is entirely optional.

How do we communicate?

Most communication takes place through the class WhatsApp group, with important announcements also sent by email.

How do membership, cancellation, and the free trial work?

Your monthly membership supports the educational activities of our nonprofit organization while you’re enrolled in the course. You may cancel at any time through the payment platform. Every new student receives a 7-day free trial with no charge if canceled during that period. If your first payment has already been processed, you may still request a full refund within 7 days by emailing contact@newacropolisus.com.

Why haven't I heard of New Acropolis before?

Although New Acropolis has been active since 1957 and operates in more than 50 countries, it is still growing in the United States. Our work has traditionally expanded through local communities and word of mouth rather than large advertising campaigns.

What if I still have questions?

We’d be happy to help. Contact us at contact@newacropolisus.com before enrolling, and we’ll gladly answer any questions about the course or our organization.

Is this course academic?

No. While you’ll study great philosophers and civilizations, the focus is practical. Every class explores how ancient wisdom can help us live better today.

Where are you located?
